Holy Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1213)

Having a baby? Contact Father to make arrangements to have your baby baptized as soon as possible! Those who have not had a child baptized before will also schedule a preparation session. Before you choose your baby’s godparents, remember to pick people who will be good examples for your child. Only one godparent is necessary, but you may choose a godfather and a godmother. They must be confirmed, married in the Catholic Church (if living in a marital situation), and actively living the life of faith so that they can be the best support to your child as they grow up!

If you are an adult seeking the sacrament of Baptism, also visit our RCIA page.

Holy Matrimony

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 1601)

Recently engaged? Contact Father to start your preparation for this beautiful sacrament, even before scheduling or setting up any other arrangements. With the help of discussions with Father, meetings with a married mentor couple, and a pre-marriage inventory, we hope to give you the tools to having a holy, happy, life-long marriage! The Dioceses of Minnesota require preparation to begin at least six months before a wedding.

Funerals

At the death of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters of baptism and strengthened at the eucharistic table, the Church intercedes on behalf of the deceased because of its confident belief that death is not the end nor does it break the bonds forged in life. The Church also ministers to the sorrowing and consoles them in the funeral rites with the comforting word of God and the sacrament of the eucharist. (General Introduction, Order of Christian Funerals, n. 4)

The Funeral Mass is the Church at prayer on behalf of the soul of the faithful departed, begging the Lord to forgive the sins of the departed and to give them eternal rest. Even before the death of your loved one, call the parish to ensure that your loved one passes with the Sacraments and in the state of grace.
Funeral planning is a praiseworthy practice. Some people prefer to pick out readings or music before their own death for their funeral. If you would like to plan ahead, think about readings from the Sacred Scriptures and songs we sing at Mass that you might want at your funeral. Then contact Father to help you to finalize your preferences in accord with the guidelines the Church lays out for the celebration of Mass.
